Social work is my special interest, so strap in!

Social work is holistic and person-centered

Social work is focused on understanding and addressing how all of the environments and systems in your life have interacted to create the person you are alongside the challenges you are facing. We believe that all systems are inter-connected and influence each other which is why we understand intersectionality so well.

The best part of looking at your life holistically is that we can work on which areas need to improve/change and which areas are bringing you strength and connection. Life really is a balancing act and we’re experts at trying to help you manage and juggle everything that’s going on.

I really love that social work isn’t focused on making you into a cookie-cutter cis hetero white man who works in finance, loves capitalism, and thinks everyone has the same opportunities in life if they work hard enough. It really is about getting to know you and what you want out of life.

We understand life is chaotic, uncomfortable, traumatic, and messy. We don’t shy away from the realities and suffering. We work with what we’ve got to get you to where you want to be.

Social work doesn’t individualise problems

Social workers focus on understanding relationships and connection because after all, they are the essence of life and wellbeing. We have great pattern recognition and we link your problems to broader underlying systemic issues. This ensures we are solving problems that work towards the root cause rather than just the symptoms of the issue that are currently affecting you.

We are very skilled at working in multi-disciplinary teams so that we can address your problems from many angles, ensuring long-term solutions.

Our main goal is to do ourselves out of a job by empowering you to strengthen the systems around you so you have the skills, knowledge, and social support to tackle future problems when they arise.

Social work is social justice oriented

Can you name another profession where one of its core values is a commitment to social justice? Pretty cool if you ask me! We know that the person is political. That’s why we work tirelessly to make systems more equitable and accessible. We fight the good fight, daily. We value advocacy and skilling you up for self-advocacy. If you want to talk about social justice issues, we’re all ears. If you want to join us to make change, let’s go!
